The Antennas Go UP!
February, 2000

The UHF DTV Channel 39 antenna is gently lifted into place and secured to
the top of the new KOAC tower.

The following day, we arrived on site to have the whole top of Vineyard in the clouds.
The top of the tower was barely visible, and the top of the crane just faded into the fog.

When it looked like the fog had cleared enough to go ahead, the new VHF, Channel 7 antenna
Was prepared for lifting into place on top of the UHF antenna.

The antenna is lifted into position.  Barely visible in the cloud.

As soon as the new antennas were mounted on the new tower, the LeBlanc
crew went to work removing the old Channel 7 Super Turnstile antenna.

Because of weight restrictions on the crane at this extended height, the old antenna
was cut into 2 sections for removal.  This is the bottom section being removed from
its mount.

After the last of the old antenna was down, the first of three large sections
of the old tower are separated, and lowered to the ground.

The bottom section is un bolted from its base.

Each section of the old tower had to be carefully raised up and over the guy wires
for the new tower, then lowered to a storage area

The old KOAC TV tower is finally down, and stored for later removal.
After testing, KOAC Channel 7 began using the new VHF antenna from the new
tower on February 25th, 2000.
In a few months, we expect to have a temporary low power DTV station on the air from
the new UHF antenna.
